Day After Thanksgiving

We Marvel at comics in D.C . But that’s not where the true heroes are . They sacrifice what’s taken for granted…though we watch the same sun set, Black Friday’s a war they won’t win; these Champions face lines that have been crossed and the wind has scrambled the mark…. It’s my prayer as shoppers put up their weary feet and soak their achy bodies , thinking of the craziness of it all…. They remember Who gives us this privilege …

The Tryptophan Playground

The Turkey’s lost the battle; the potatoes are smashed; giggling is heard throughout the house as buns are in the oven. Doorbell rings… Another chair finds room around the table. Hamming it up through green bean casserole while carrots take a dip in Ranch dressing. Bread and pie – sweet pumpkins they are, rest among apple and rhubarb. Game’s afoot, dishes soak after being served, coffee lifts tired eyes for the ride home to slip into sweet dreams….

Standing among the mighty pillars: Ken, Barbie, Skipper, each Bratz… Watching new bobble-heads move close. Store lights reveal their popularity. If I fell off this shelf; took the plunge … Breaking this pretty smile…. I thank God kids in other countries would still find value in me.
